I Loved The Many Elephant Walk
Taking piano lessons as a child was a joy for me, most of the time. I loved to play the piano, but I didn’t want to play scales, arpeggios, and other skill enhancement exercises. I just wanted to play music that was fun! When my piano teacher taught me the song “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini, now that was fun! I wanted to play it over and over and over!
My teacher, Mrs. Buzbee, wisely told me, “You practice your scales first, then your reward is playing Baby Elephant Walk.” She encouraged me that if I learned the fundamentals of music on the piano first, then I would have a greater natural tendency to play the “fun” songs I wanted to play later.
This is a beautiful illustration of life. If we will practice the fundamentals of life first, we will be able to graduate to the more enjoyable aspects of life. In your walk with God, don’t forget the fundamentals: worship, reading the Word, Church family life, tithing, etc. If you’ll do those things regularly, you’ll enjoy the rest of life much more.
You watch… You wait… You’ll see!
