I Won't Sugar Coat It
You awaken from surgery; the doctor comes in to give you an update on how it went. He begins by saying things that sound pleasant and seem positive but yet you know there’s more to it than what you’re being told. Your response to the doctor, as you interrupt him in mid-sentence is, “Doc. don’t sugar coat it, just tell me the truth.”
Sugar coating makes something seem more positive or pleasant than it really is. We often times sugar coat our messages to people simply because we don’t want to hurt them or make them feel bad. And at times, we sugar coat the truth to the point that the truth is actually lost in the message entirely. Thus, they never hear us speak the truth; which can be detrimental in many levels of their life.
If you’re going to speak the truth to those you love; simply tell them the truth. Yes, be nice about it, with the Fruit of the Spirit being exhibited, put don’t lie to them. Tell them the unadulterated truth. It may hurt at first, but in the long run, they’ll be glad you did. And so will you.
