Lay Down and Sleep
Psalm 4:8
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
It’s the weekend, and I think we all need some rest. It’s easy to get worn out from all our work and all our responsibilities. Nothing is better than a full and refreshing nights sleep. But sometimes, when our head hits the pillow, our minds are overwhelmed with stress and worries of the future, and we wake up feeling more stressed than the night before.
When I think of someone who had legitimate reasons to be stressed and worried for the future, I think of David. He spent years, running for his life from King Saul. He was hunted daily by a man who was determined to kill him. That could cause some serious stress. Imagine trying to sleep at night, just praying you aren’t found and killed in your sleep. Yet still, David says... “In peace, I both lie down and sleep.” Why did David have such peace and such amazing sleep?
Because... He was close to God! He was a man after God’s own heart! He was confident in the future God has planned for Him! He sought after God with all his heart! If we do the same, and we seek more of God, our sleep will be sooooo sweet! Intimacy with God = Peaceful sleep. No more stress, no more worry, no more fear. We can be left only with confidence in Christ and complete peace. God is good, and always will be.
So tonight when you close your eyes, and your head hits the pillow... Rest. Be at peace. Know that God has a perfect plan for your future. Get some much needed rest and let God take care of your tomorrow. Let go and trust Him! He will never fail you. That’s my God!!!!
