Consume The Word!

Ezekiel 3:3

“Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.”

This is definitely one of the more interesting and strange things I’ve seen God ask someone to do. “Eat this scroll.” Why would God have Ezekiel do this? What could this strange action, be telling us?

It’s interesting, that God didn’t say to Ezekiel, “Read My words.” He said, “Consume My Words!” I’m convinced that reading the Bible is one of the most important and life changing things you can do to grow your relationship with God. It’s one of God’s ways of communicating to His children. But... reading is not enough! It must be consumed!!!!

Food only helps us when we do more than just look at it, but when we eat it. It gives us energy and strength. In the same way, when we look at God’s Word, that’s great, but there must be more. It must be consumed. Don’t simply read your designated chapters or verses and then stop. Instead, study it. Take notes. Look up translations. Discuss it with a friend. Don’t just read, and move on. Digest it. Take time to really investigate it, and find the meaning behind it. Dig deeper. Seek Him!

When Ezekiel did consume God’s Word, it tasted SWEET!!!! To read the Bible is good, but when you consume it, that is when you experience the sweetness of it! The joy, peace, guidance, wisdom, understanding, discipline, and love that comes from really studying and consuming God’s written word! I promise you one thing... when you experience the true power of God’s Word, you’ll like the taste! Sweet to the soul! God loves it when we seek Him with all our heart! That’s my God!!!!
