Going Off The Grid
Since the beginning of the internet age, I’ve heard the term in the movies where characters would say, “I’m going off the grid.” Meaning they were going to a place where there was no internet, no Wi-Fi, no ability for anyone to know where they would be. Off the grid of civilization only to depend upon the resources of the locale in which they would find themselves in.
I’ve always wanted to go “off the grid” myself; thinking it would be adventurous and give me that Indiana Jones feeling of bravery and courage. Bring it on! Which was all wonderful to think about, until it happened.
A few years ago, I found myself in the mountains of Ghana, Africa “off the grid.” Not only was there no internet or technology, but no electricity, no running water, no stores, no toilet paper, no nothing! Except for the surroundings of the village I was in, there was nothing! This whole notion of being “off the grid” got extremely old quickly; especially after the first week!
Be careful what you wish for. It may seem to be glamourous and something you want but is it really? Use wisdom, discernment and listen to God when you step out. If He wants you “off the grid”, then go there. But if not, then don’t even think about it. Obey Him, not your flesh.
And as you do…
You watch... You wait... You'll see!
