Do You REALLY Know Him?
Let me tell you something, love is a scary thing. To fall completely in love with someone makes you vulnerable and that itself can be scary. There is a show that I watched during quarantine, and the girl was saying, “You’re not in love with me, you’re in love with the idea of me.” This got me thinking, are you in love with God or are you in love with the idea of God?
It’s so easy to get caught up in the idea of God. Someone that loves you so much, who takes away your worries and your fears. Someone that gives you grace time and time again. It’s so great to think of all those qualities and be like, “Yeah man, I love Him. He’s great!” But do you actually know him? Do you have that relationship with God? It’s so easy to become a lukewarm Christian. It’s easy to push God off to the side and be like, “Yeah, I still love Him.” But do you actually know Him? You can’t have a relationship with someone if you don’t actually know them.
In Matthew 7:21-23, it says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and do many mighty works in Your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.” Once you get to Heaven, God can still be like, “Yeah, didn’t know you, off you go.” You never built that relationship with God. God has so many amazing things He wants to offer you, but you can’t be granted those if the street is only one way.
You need to dive deeper into your relationship with God. Have those conversations with Him as He were your friend. Read the Bible and get to know His character, His personality, His relationships with people that He had. Read about all the amazing things He did and what He says He will do in the future. Fall in love with God and build that personal relationship with Him. Push yourself to be in love with Him, and not just the idea of Him.
